_BACKGROUND HISTORY
HI STORY TIME! Once upon a time in a rural region of the world, there was a small village who worshipped the gods! The place was very dense with spirit energy, so many spirits of the dead roamed there. Likewise, it attracted quite a few gods! The place was bursting with life and happiness as the balance between the dead and the gods, who are beings of "light", kept everything in equilibrium. It was all hustle and bustle as the folks worked hard day and night to please both sides, showering them with offerings and wishes for things like, say,
good weather, nice crops, happiness,
good health, a nice love life!
However, the anxiety and tension that built up between three sides eventually broke the already delicate relationship they all shared and somehow, it disrupted the flow of spirit energy that had accumulated there. The energy gathered together and deploded, causing a huge explosion that left the village almost completely destroyed. Now, they all suffer to try to bring back what they had before...
Now, the village, poor and hungry, is working hard to rebuild their village and live a somewhat decent life. With the spirit energy almost depleted, most of the spirits and gods left, save for a few. The people eventually forgot their history with the others, and began to live an average day life. Of course they still gave offerings to the few gods that were still there, giving them lavishing gifts of gold and the best of the crops, but they had forgotten about the gods that did not dwell in the forests or in the mountains. In fact, those were labelled as the "bad spirits", not to be approached 'less they wanted to be cursed.
Y'see, some foolish god decided to greedily gather all the offerings to himself! So he slyly fooled the gullible humans into the story that he fabricated; one of mystery, despair, and agony; one that he knew would pull the heartstrings of both men and women, pulling them into his clawy clutches. That man. was Dutchess.
Let's go to another part of this story. Up in the mountains where the altars were long forgotten, there still lived a few gods, now too weak to leave their worn down, broken worship sites. Tired, lonely, and kept with only the sweet memories of the past, they live each day barely scraping by as the town gods lived a lavish, spoiled life. There was hardly any interaction between each other since there wasn't much to talk about! Likewise, their useless pride dissuaded them from approaching others; it was simply quite foolish
Here, we meet Snuff, a grumpy god who was left behind and couldn't go anywhere else because he had depended so much on the human's offerings that now he had become a shell, depending on nothing but what the mountains and forests could provide him. Along one of his travels, he met a small ghost of a girl who had just recently died...Flake, he called her, as she was huddled weeping silently onto the white snow that blended in perfectly with her snowy white hair....

_Snuff is god no longer worshipped by anyone ever since the village was
destroyed! He was wrongly scapegoated by the villagers, who all blamed
him for the destruction. However, he decided to bear all their cruelty
and departed to the mountains without ever correcting them. The many
years of isolation in the mountains took its toll on him, as he became
ever more uncaring and grumpy. He looks a bit older than he really is
due to fatigue/bad living conditions. Flake is a ghost/snowflake spirit
who lives with Snuff and fell for his kindness hidden by an uncaring
attitude. She gets jealous when others try to get close to him and is
generally annoying/possessive. Dutchess is a god that was worshipped
lavishly, and thus took everything for granted. He became bored so he
found entertainment in watching Snuff suffer in his little cave in the
mountains! He is also the kind of person who pleasures in watching
others suffer through life so..yeah....later though he takes notice of
Snuff's kindness and frail body (of course since he bothers the poor guy
so much aflksdlh) and tries to help him. Snuff, however, was grumpy
and stubborn, refusing to leave his precious home.
Dutchess is the kind of guy who sneers at people! He didn't always use to be this way though, he was very kind before! But power and money makes one greedy until they are top! But once he was at the top, he no longer cared for anything and lost the abillity to feel empathy for others. Time and age had changed him to become rather apathetic/bored! So he is always looking for entertainment (which turns out to be Snuff). He grows to become very fond of Snuff, but Snuff ignored Dutchess' offers of help, so Dutchess was forced to slowly watch Snuff wither away right in front of his eyes. Dutchess grew more worried day by day but knew he could not force Snuff to live with him in his palace. In the end, his power and wealth were useless to him. Despair ultimately took hold of his life and he decided, if his life was going to end, he would want to die with Snuff.
Flake, however, was the ghost that tagged along with Snuff and stayed by his side all the time! She kept him company in his small cave, and was very easy to take care of b/c she was dead and required no food or clothing! Perhaps she was attracted to the death that was emanating from Snuff, who was frail and at the point of near death; or perhaps it was his kindness that kept her with him, but she loved to stay by his side. She hated anything and anyone who interrupted her time with him (aka Dutchess) and would play dirty tricks on them to get them away from Snuff. This in turn caused conflict between Dutchess (who visited as much as possible to make sure Snuff was still alive and with adequate living conditions) and Flake (who wanted Snuff all to herself and was looking forward to Snuff's passing on so that they would be together forever in the afterlife).
Snuff, who was the center of their conflict, was extremely apathetic of the two and lived day to day struggling to survive. He ignored the things they said or did. Overall he was pretty much a grumpy guy; boring, quiet, rude, and ignorant. Perhaps he was just tired of living, or perhaps he had just given up altogether as to enjoying life rather than surviving it. Perhaps, though, he had felt guiltridden for the destruction of the village that he had loved, so much so that he felt that he did not deserve the compassion and friendship of others. He was a demon in their eyes, and demons are evil. And evil deserves no kindness. Therefore, Snuff deserved no kindness. By being cold to others, they would eventually leave.......right?
