the story
_ELLABORATION
Whole story is kinda carnival based.
Their hair colors are all not natural b/c they are from the carnival!
Except white hair represents nobility!
Yellow, brown, orange, and black hair are commonpeople hairs~
So everyone else that has weird color hair have basically traded their soul for the circus..
but in this world, the circus is treated like celebrities b/c it is hard to find entertainment with no internets or tv! (Ofc they also experience a ton of problems and have a tough time making friends, but that's to be expected)
However it is taboo for nobility to have an affair with any circus people b/c it is taboo and not looked at in a positive manner;; although both nobility and the circus are looked on in admiration, any connection between the two is a nono! which is why edge, whose hair is light blue, is treated badly b/c it's a mix of white hair (nobility) and true blue hair (circus); tomi is different though b/c pink is considered a "true color" but is often mistaken to be an illegitimate child so she has personality issues..
(oops spoiler)
Also b/c of this cecile is forbidden to have any feelings towards token and vice versa!
but of course forbidden relationships are the hottest so---
Once upon a time, in a tiny kingdom in Western Europe, there was a young prince who was banished for his egotistical, conceited attitude. Angry at first, he swore to have his revenge on the kingdom that had turned it's back on him. Fastforward to 5 years later; the years had worn down his anger, and now a new ruler had come, resulting in a happy, economically stable nation. However, under the happy utopia created by this new queen lies malicious plans for the people...the birth of forbidden money trees.
On a lovely evening in Tecres, a traveling festival was taking place. As each performance went by, the lonely bitter prince stared up at the bright colors of festivities...and his eyes landed on a young girl, with murky green hair and orange eyes...And all he could think of was..."That hair color is ABSOLUTELY unnatural." After witnessing (and completely ignoring) the enchanting dance of Token's, Cecile is amazed at Token's hair color and rashly comes up to her to ask her of how it became that way.
"After all, hair dying kills your natural hair" ----
Token replies that it was permanent magic bestowed to the performers of their particular group, as a gift from the queen; the same one who substituted Cecile. It wasn't much, but it was enough to distinguish them as being RECOGNIZED among all others. After talking some more, a strong gust of wind blew at Cecile's dust-covered hair, revealing strands of unnatural white. Gasping, she brings up the courage to ask Cecile of his hair color: white.
White: it wasn't a color, but it wasn't natural hair color either. Why then, would he have it? That hair...that hair was the hair of the royal family; no commoner was ever born with such a color. Cecile, in anguish, reveals his heartbreaking story to Token and then goes on to tell her his desire to win back his throne. Then she tells him of the gossip she hears during her time in the palace; the queen, Lacesta, was planning on growing money trees, something that EVERYONE knew would bring turmoil and depression if succeeded.
They agree to work together to plot against the queen. Many months later, after gaining the support of the entire circus group, (with the help of Token's friend and confident performer, Elloise), they come up with a trademark look of the rebels: dyed colorful hair. ONLY they, the leaders, would have colored hair. ONLY they would know the trademark look. And their organization name? Backlash.
Cecile travels with Token for a time, leaving the performance group in the hands of Elloise. Hoping to gain more support/backup to rebel, they enter the ghettos. Meet Edge; an overly-emotional, angsty 17 year old. STRANGELY with light blue hair. Curious, Cecile and Token corner and question him. They later find out his story. He was Lacesta's illegimate son, WHOA. She had an affair with a relative of Cecile's to climb her way up the social ladder and overthrow Cecile's position as ruler through usage of blackmail and backstabbing. EVEN BEFORE Cecile was BORN. Throwing Edge away as nothing but evidence of her sin, she continued on in life; Edge was left to die in the poorest of poor places with no pity. There, he self-taught himself self-defense and confidence; the confidence to live. That was why his hair was so light. However, the blue tint of it was still...quite a mystery. He eventually agrees to join their party.
Voyage continues. Along the way, they are ambushed by Pick and Pike, servants of Cecile's sister, Nevi. Confused, they continue their voyage after escaping near death with their encounter, they stop by a small village, and meet Tomi. Shy with the cleavage of intense man-nose-bleeding action, she was happy and innocent to the extent of if an incident were to happen where she was molested, she would call it self-defense. The man's. They discuss. They talk. Cecile agrees that if Tomi helps them in their cause, he will promise her a safe life in the palace away from lecherous old men. She agrees full-heartedly. Whether or not she understood the dire situation she was in or not was unknown to anyone. After giving her THOROUGH directions, she heads off back to the circus place then located a mile or two away. [since the circus is still travelling]
